A supportive space to explore what is happening for you, drawing on different approaches according to each person’s needs.
AN INTEGRATIVE APPROACH SHAPED AROUND THE INDIVIDUAL
Julie describes her work as integrative. Rather than relying on one model for every person, she can draw on relational theory, humanistic and psychodynamic approaches, attachment theory, person-centred practice and neuroscience according to the issues presented and the client’s needs.
The therapeutic relationship is central to this work. The aim is an empathic, supportive, safe and confidential space in which issues can be explored together, with challenge where appropriate.
How counselling and psychotherapy can work
I offer both short and long-term therapy. The length of therapy depends on the issues you bring and what you wish to achieve from the sessions. An enquiry is an opportunity to ask questions and share what you are looking for without needing to decide everything in advance.
Talking is not the only way to begin making sense of an experience. Where it feels useful and appropriate, I can also bring in a creative element by offering the use of drawing, sand tray and figures to help the unconscious mind uncover the hidden truths. These are options within the integrative approach, not a requirement for therapy. I have worked with all groups, including working in a children’s therapy centre.
